What is PunchLight ?

PunchLight is a division of Mediaport, a leading audio/video solutions
provider based in Prague, Czech Republic. The PunchLight series
consists of professional automatic recording indicators and timecode
displays, for use within production, postproduction and dubbing
studio environments.

The displays are intended for anybody recording with professional
applications such as Digidesign Pro Tools or Steinberg Cubase,
who need to see the start/end of recording or see clearly accurate
timecode information.

The Universal Studio Display displays Timecode - Bars/Beats - Time elapsed - Samples and has a full Punchlight mode, indicating Record Start / Stop and Standby

The RECORDING Display is a light unit which has to be connected to the GPI ThruBox or the MIDI SwitcherBox either of which act as a trigger.
It is designed for studios where aesthetics are important. In the standard version the product displays "RECORDING" in red (available in two styles
of typeface) and also has lights for standby and cue. It comes in a very smart brushed aluminium casing - with two wooded versions available upon
request. Custom labels, text or graphic can also be specified upon request.

...the sound engineer needs to provide an additional signal at any time he decides.

The RECORDING Lamp is a small plexiglass light unit with wood
base which has to be connected to the GPI ThruBox or the MIDI
SwitcherBox either of which act as a trigger. Rec. Lamp indicates
punch in/out.

The product signals "Recording" by glowing red, and "stand by" in
glowing orange. The plexiglass design with its skew angle and matt
finish provide an interesting light effect.

The RECORDING Strip is a compact light unit which has to be connected

It shines bright "RED" to indicate recording/punch in/out. Typical usage is
above door, at the entrance to the recording room, warning others that
recording is in progress.

The Midi SwitcherBox 3
is a switcher interface to connect up to three of the
light units such as the Recording Display, Recording Lamp or a Recording Strip.
This box connects to any MIDI interface; it works in Pro Tools or in Cubase,
Nuendo, Logic, Digital Performer and Sonar. A 12V AC adaptor is included.

NOTICE: You have to specify a driver type before your order.

The GPI ThruBox
is a switcher interface for connecting up to three light
units at once, such as the Recording Display, Recording Lamp or Recording
Strip. This device connects to the GPI port on SYNC i/o and works exclusively
with Pro Tools HD, without drivers. An AC 12V adaptor is included.

PunchLight - automatic recording indication for Digidesign Pro Tools


The PunchLight allows visual indication of recording start/stop (punch in/out)
in Pro Tools. Basic configuration consists of one switcher unit (SwitcherBox or
GPI ThruBox) and one light unit (RECORDING Display or Lamp). It is possible
to chain more GPI ThruBoxes or SwitcherBoxes and any light unit can be used
with any switcher unit. Now available is the GPI ThruBox 3, which can connect
up to three light units at the same time, positioned at any place you like.

Pro Tools HD: From the SYNC i/o GPI port, just connect the cable to the
GPI ThruBox, which in turn connects to one of the light units. From then
on it works automatically.

Pro Tools LE, M-Powered or HD: Alternatively you connect from your
Pro Tools MIDI i/o, to the SwitcherBox, and then on to a light unit. You just
install the CS-10 controller for Pro Tools, and then it works automatically.

The PunchLight allows visual indication of recording start/stop
(punch in/out) in Digital Performer or Apple Logic. The basic
configuration consists of one SwitcherBox unit and one light
unit (RECORDING Display or Lamp). It is possible to chain
more SwitcherBoxes.


Connection is simple. The computer/MIDI port is connected to
the SwitcherBox which in turn connects to the chosen light unit.
